just before lunch, i got to read Bob Ong's sixth book: "macArthur" for the second time. it's a short read, isang upuan lang... and by the way, a must read!
it's actually my first bob-ong-book-experience and soo looking forward for more! anyone! lend me please! hehe... or better yet, have it wrapped and ribboned under our christmas tree! ;)
the story exposes the philippine's ill society plauged by poverty, drug addiction, crimes, etc. through the characters of cyrus, noel, jim and voltron. bob ong knows very well the filipino culture of being generally happy people, thus conveying the story's message in a light and funny manner. i especially enjoyed these made-up and very much pinoy vocabulary words:
- bogaloids - less harsh version ng bobo, bogak
- sabogaloids - nag-evolove na bogaloids, now with "sabog," after pot session
- tubolosaurus - pertaining to the size of the human feces, t*e, eb*k, gross! forgive me! =)
- abnormalites - a more politically correct sounding translation ng abnormal, abnoy
- tirable - referring to booty call girls
- at madami pang iba! haha!
from what i've heard (from friends and bob ong avid readers), it's nothing like his first two books (if i'm not mistaken) na compilation ng jokes and stories. this one actually has a plot, and an exhilirating one i must say. though it's the typical drug-addict napariwara story, may unpredictable element pa rin.. huhuhu.. ='( i felt for voltron-amadeus-denver, whatever his name is! his death was not detailed, but was sudden. ouch talaga. and of course... for mang justo, victimized by the monsters in cyrus' head... poor old man... affected? wink! yah... i almost cried. noel's story (i guess) was the reason for the title...
it's funny and thrilling both in one book... but above all, compelling!
bogaloids!!! heck, i love that! tsk. ;)
*shoutout --> shemay, tnx for macArthur! it shall return on monday! ^_^
